THE STORIES OF 5 FAMOUS MILITARY DOGS

Ark Crew • Nov 02, 2022

It's that time of year again! The leaves are changing color, the air is crisp and cool, and families are coming together from near and far to celebrate Thanksgiving. Of course, that means your furry friend will be spending the day with you too. But before you let them have a taste of your turkey dinner, there are a few things you should know about what foods are safe—and not so safe—for your dog to eat.

TURKEY - YES, IF PLAIN...

Turkey is generally safe for dogs to eat, as long as it is cooked without any extra seasoning or spices. However, the skin and bones can be dangerous for your pup, so be sure to remove them before giving them any scraps.

STUFFING - PROBABLY NOT...

While stuffing may be delicious, it's not so great for your dog. Stuffing is usually made with onions and/or garlic, which can cause anemia in dogs. It's also typically very high in salt, which can lead to dehydration. So, it's best to steer clear of stuffing when it comes to feeding your dog this Thanksgiving.

MASHED POTATOES - OK, IF ONLY POTATOES...

Mashed potatoes are usually safe for dogs to eat, as long as they don't contain any onions, garlic, or other spices. However, many people add butter or cream to their mashed potatoes, which can give your dog an upset stomach. So if you're going to share your mashed potatoes with your pup, make sure they're plain.

CRANBERRY SAUCE - OK, IN MODERATION, LOTS OF SUGAR...

Cranberry sauce is safe for dogs to eat in small amounts. However, it is very high in sugar, so it's best to give them just a little bit as a treat rather than letting them gorge on it.

This Thanksgiving, there's no need to leave your furry friend at home alone while you enjoy a delicious meal with family and friends. With a little bit of planning ahead, you can include your dog in the festivities—safely! By following these simple tips, you'll know exactly what foods are safe—and not so safe—for your pup to enjoy this holiday season. BUT if you need a safe, fun place for your pup give us a call and we would love to host them this Thanksgiving!
