TIPS ON GETTING YOUR DOG OUT OF THE CAR SAFELY

TIP 1: LEASHING IN THE CAR INSTEAD OF OUT

Dogs get excited when they travel and recognize where they are going. If your dog is on to get overly excited it is a great idea to leash your dog while they are still inside the car. Putting the leash on before opening the door will help put your mind at ease knowing your dog won't jump out of the car and take off running. This will keep the dog close by and under your control. 

TIP 2: HAVE LEASH READY

If you choose not to put the leash on inside the car it is a good rule of thumb to have your leash ready for use as soon as you open the door. Being quick to leash your dog is important if your dog is a runner or gets excited when traveling in the car. Being prepared and ready will help get your dog out of the car safely and securely and help keep you stress free.

TIP 3: HARNESS

If you have a bigger dog, using a harness is always a great option. Being able to handle a bigger dog when getting out of the car can be difficult. If your bigger dog likes to jump out and take off they are more prone to snapping their leash. Using a harness allows you to feel more in control and also let your dog know whose boss.

TIP 4: WINDOW HALF OR ALL THE WAY UP

When traveling in the car with your pup, it is common to have the windows down so fresh air can blow through. If you are a windows down kind of person it is a good idea to roll the windows half up or roll them up completely before you get to your destination. We have seen several times where the dog gets excited and jumps out of the window. This type of situation is never safe and it gives us as well as the owner a heart attack. 

TIP 5: BACK SEAT INSTEAD OF FRONT

Having your dog travel in the back seat instead of the front is always safer for both you and the dog. Keeping your dog in the back will secure that your driving space is never compromised. If your dog is up in the front seat with you, they tend to cross over into your space and can hinder your driving. If your dog is in the front seat and you are quick to break, your dog could go flying towards the windshield. Thus making the back seat the safest place for your dog.
