NATIONAL BRING YOUR CAT TO THE VET DAY

Did you know that August 22nd is considered as National Bring Your Cat to the Vet Day? this day was founded by the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) to encourage cat lovers to show their love for their cat by making sure they have the proper veterinary care possible. The AAFP states that statistics show 83% of cats are taken to the vet in the first year of ownership but over half of them never return. National Bring Your Cat to the Vet Day is a great reminder that cat's need check ups just like humans do. Below are 5 reasons routine vet visits are a vital part of your cat's health according to the American Association of Feline Practitioners.

1. CATS AGE MORE RAPIDLY THAN HUMANS - Veterinary care is crucial because one human year is four "cat years," and a lot can effect it's health in that time, which is why yearly visits are so important.

2. CATS ARE MASTERS AT HIDING ILLNESS - Veterinarians are trained to spot subtle changes or health issues, and detect many problems before they become difficult to treat.

3. OVER 50% OF CATS ARE OVERWEIGHT OR OBESE - Just a few extra pounds can put your cat at risk for diabetes; heart, respiratory, and kidney disease; and more.

4. PREVENTIVE CARE IS BETTER THAN REACTIVE CARE - Regular exams can help avoid medical emergencies since veterinarians can often detect conditions or diseases before they become significant.

5. KITTENS HAVE 26 TEETH, WHILE ADULT CATS HAVE 30 - Periodontal disease is considered the most prevalent disease in cats three years of age and older, which may lead to infection, loss of appetite, and pain.

This pet holiday is a great time to make and appointment to take your furry feline to the vet for a check-up! Taking your cat to the vet for a routine medical care visit will help prevent preventable illnesses and to detect diseases early while they are easiest to treat.
