TIPS FOR TRAVELING WITH YOUR PET DURING THE HOLIDAYS

Traffic. Crowds. Lost baggage. Traveling during the holidays can be stressful. That’s why most folks board their pets while they’re away. But if you opt to take Fido along for the ride, brush up on these tips for making your travels a little smoother.

BE PREPARED.

Think ahead about where your dog will sleep, which supplies they’ll need, and if your destination has pet-friendly amenities like a dog park or potty station. Prep single servings of food, check that your pet’s vaccinations are up to date, and make a checklist of everything you’ll need to pack for your pup.

GET THE RIGHT GEAR.

Whatever method of transport you’re using, bring the crate or carrier that best fits your pet’s size and comfort. Crate training is a great technique to keep your pet safe and secure wherever they are. If your pet isn’t going to remain in a crate while in the car, consider a seat belt leash or pet car seat.

GET THAT ENERGY OUT.

Before you can expect your dog or cat to take it easy, help them expend their playful energy. Take your dog on a walk around the neighborhood or play an intense game of fetch. Whatever it takes to get out all the wiggles.

CREATE THE PEACE.

Pets are very attuned to their owners’ emotions, so try to create a calming environment while packing and preparing for your trip. If your four-legged friend is prone to anxiety, try a pet-friendly CBD product to take off the edge. We recommend dog and cat treats like Healthy Hemp or Pet Releaf Edibites (both available at the Ark).

WEIGH YOUR OPTIONS.

Not all pets adapt to new environments and people as easily as others. It’s important to take your pet’s personality and socialization skills into consideration before you decide whether to take your pet with you or board your pet.

If you’re on the fence about leaving your pet behind, remember that you can use our Pet Cams to check in on your furry kid during their entire stay at the Ark. After a full day of play, your dog can snuggle up in their own cozy kennel. And don't forget that cats, guinea pigs, birds and all kinds of exotic pets are welcome at the Ark as well!
